Vehicle inspections and your end of day
A DVIR (driver vehicle inspection report) is the check you make on your vehicle before and after driving it. The driver app lets you complete a pre-trip inspection before you set off and a post-trip inspection when you finish, and keeps a history of the inspections you submitted.
Your company decides whether inspections are required at the start and end of your shift, and which checks each inspection contains. Your office can review the inspections you submit.
Inspection reminders
When an inspection is required, the app reminds you — on the dashboard, on the Routes tab and with a daily reminder notification. For example:
- Complete your pre-trip DVIR — you have a route today but haven't inspected your vehicle yet.
- You changed vehicles — inspect the vehicle you are now assigned before driving it.
- Complete your post-trip DVIR — you haven't submitted an end-of-day inspection today.
Tap a reminder to start the inspection.
Start an inspection
Open Inspections from the dashboard's work tools, or DVIR from the side menu. Then select Start Pre-Trip Inspection or Start Post-Trip Inspection.
If you already started an inspection and didn't finish it, the app asks whether to Continue Inspection where you left off or Start New Inspection.
If your current route has no truck assigned, the app warns you before you begin. You can continue and type the plate number yourself, or contact your manager.
The inspection steps
- Vehicle details — check the Vehicle ID (your plate number, filled in from your route's truck when there is one) and enter the Odometer Reading.
- Exterior — photograph your vehicle from the front and from the back. Select Take Photo, or Upload Photo to choose one you already took.
- Checks — for each item, such as headlights, turn signals, brake lights, fluid leaks and horn, select Acceptable or Damaged. For a damaged item, describe the problem (a description is required) and optionally add a photo of the damage. Your company may add its own checks here.
- Signature — sign on the screen, then select Submit.
Checks and photos your company has marked as optional can be skipped; required ones must be completed before you can move on. The plate number, the odometer reading and your signature are always required.
Your progress is saved on your phone if you leave the inspection. Submit needs a connection, so if you are offline at the last step, wait until you are back online.
Review past inspections
The inspections screen shows how many inspections are Completed (every check acceptable) and Failed (at least one item damaged), and lists the inspections for the selected day. Change the date to look at another day, and tap an inspection to see what you submitted.
For your full history, open Settings → DVIR'S, which groups your inspections into morning and end-of-trip inspections.
Close out your day
When you finish your route, the app offers to review your end of day — from the Route complete! screen, or at any time from the side menu.
- The first screen congratulates you on completing your tasks. It has an On Duty / Off Duty switch, which starts on On Duty.
- While On Duty is selected, select Daily Driving Log Review to go through the close-out steps:
- Daily driving log — check your total hours and total distance for the day, tick I certify that all entries are accurate and complete, then select Next. Next stays unavailable until you tick the box.
- Vehicle photos — take the requested photos, such as the front view, rear view and cab interior, then select Next.
- Certification — add any notes about your day, sign where it says Tap here to sign, and continue.
- Rate your day.
- The last screen shows today's pickups and deliveries and your day rating, with buttons to go Back to home or Log out.
The Vehicle photos and Certification steps only appear if your company requires an end-of-shift inspection. If it doesn't, selecting Next on the daily driving log closes out your day and takes you straight to Rate your day.
The On Duty / Off Duty switch on the first screen only shows or hides Daily Driving Log Review. It doesn't change your hours-of-service duty status — to go off duty, change your status on the HOS tab.
If you only want to finish for the day, select View tomorrow trips on the first screen instead. This closes out your day and takes you back to your routes.
If the app can't close out your day, it tells you — try again, and contact your manager if it keeps failing.
