Hours of service in the driver app
The HOS tab keeps a record of your duty statuses through the day and shows how much driving and on-duty time you have left. It only appears if your company uses hours of service in the app.
Your duty status
Your current duty status is shown at the top of the tab. Tap it to change it. The statuses are:
| Status | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Driving | You are driving. |
| On Duty (Not Driving) | You are working but not driving, for example loading or waiting at a dock. |
| Off Duty | You are off work. |
| Sleeper Berth | You are resting in the sleeper berth. |
| Yard Move | You are moving the vehicle within a yard. Only works where your company has set up yard locations — see below. |
| Passenger | You are riding as a passenger. |
The app records your location with every status change, so location access must be on. If the app can't get your location, it asks you to turn on location services and try again.
Yard Move only works if your company has set up yard locations, and only while you are inside one of them, moving slowly, with a live GPS position. Yard locations can't be set up in the Company Portal today. Without them, and whenever you don't qualify, the app shows Yard Move Not Available with the reason and keeps your current status. Ask your company before relying on Yard Move.
Time remaining
The tab shows four clocks:
- 14 hr. on duty limit — time left in your on-duty window.
- 11 hr. driving limit — driving time left.
- Until break required — time left before you must take a break.
- Until end of cycle — time left in your weekly cycle. A banner above shows how many cycle hours you have used and how many are available.
A clock changes colour as you get close to a limit, and warnings appear at the top of the tab. If a violation is detected, the app shows what it is — for example a missing break or reaching the weekly limit.
Take a break
Select Start Break when you stop for a break, and Back to Work when you start again. Nearest Rest Stops opens nearby amenities filtered to Restaurants. Change the filter to see other kinds of places.
Your duty log
Below the clocks you can choose a date range to see a daily summary and a timeline of your status changes.
Send your records to an inspector
To email your hours-of-service records, for example to a roadside inspector:
- Select Send Information to US DOT.
- Choose the date range to send.
- Keep Hours Of Service ticked, and enter the recipient's email address.
- Select Send.
Including inspection (DVIR) records isn't available yet.
Working without a signal
If you change your status while offline, the app saves the change on your phone and sends it when you reconnect. A banner shows changes waiting to sync, with Retry sync if a change couldn't be sent.
Notifications
The app can alert you when you are approaching a limit or a break is due. See Notifications.
